BLOG: A Day to Make a Difference: The 13th Annual Silent No More Walk/Run

9.20.12 Courtney Barrette is MOCA’s Development and Events Manager. She provides a Teal Together post that highlights the 13th Annual Silent No More Walk/Run.

What a beautiful day it was to walk, run and raise money for ovarian cancer research and programming! If you were at the 13th Annual Silent No More Walk/Run on Saturday, Sept. 8, you were part of the 3,000+ walkers and runners who laced up in teal to help MOCA make a difference against this disease!

We had participants from across the country make the trek to Minnesota to show their support of MOCA. Many of our health and corporate sponsors were also represented including; Water Park of America, Regions Cancer Care Center, Mayo Clinic, Virginia Piper Cancer Institute, Minnesota Oncology and the University of Minnesota Physicians. We also welcomed two new co-chairs to this year’s Walk/Run; Nancy Libbey and Mary Pat Oslund joined Lisa Barnholdt as co-chairs of this year’s event.

For the third year in a row, Rena Sarigianopoulos of KARE11 was our emcee. She was joined on stage by Senators Al Franken and Amy Klobuchar, who both welcomed the crowd gathered for this year’s event. This was Senator Franken’s first time at the Walk/Run, and the fourth time that Senator Klobuchar has been able to join us. They each spoke of the importance of research and the leadership that MOCA provides in the ovarian cancer community across the country.

We had more than 170 family and corporate teams that registered for this year’s event, and our top team had more than 70 members pre-registered! Don’t forget: fundraisers have until September 30th to fundraise online or mail in donations to MOCA in order to qualify for our incentive prizes!

The Walk/Run takes an enormous number of volunteers in order to be successful and we would like to thank the more than 200 day of volunteers who help make the Walk/Run successful! The committee chairs for this year’s event took on enormous responsibility for very important tasks such as coordinating registration and t-shirt volunteers, the MOCA Sales Tent or helping with site set-up and clean-up. We could not do this event without all of you. We would also like to thank our corporate sponsors — you are a huge part of our success!

Mark your calendars for the 14th Annual Silent No More Walk/Run on Saturday, September 7, 2013 at Rosland Park in Edina. We hope you will join us to make it our most successful event yet!
