BLOG: Calling young adult caregivers of parents living with cancer

Are you a young adult caregiver in the Twin Cities who has cared for a parent living with cancer?

Have you felt as if your challenges don’t match up with the current support group landscape?

Would you like to get to know other people facing similar situations?

Rachel Austin is the daughter and a caregiver to a mother with ovarian cancer. She is a theater-maker and has just begun a new project titled: Love Labor, funded by the Minnesota State Arts Board. Rachel is partnering with MOCA and other cancer-related non-profits to start a discussion about the needs of younger caregivers.

Her project serves a dual purpose: to gather a community of caregivers to discuss their needs and the support network available to young adult caregivers and to develop a piece of theatre that honors that experience, to be presented to a broader community.

Rachel is asking the MOCA community to reach out to her if they are a younger caregiver interested in talking with her about their experience as part of her project. She has developed a flyer that details her project and goals.
