BLOG: Getting Ready for the Silent No More Walk/Run!

9.6.12 Nancy Libbey is a regular MOCA office volunteer and a Silent No More Walk/Run co-chair. She gives us some reminders before the Walk/Run this Saturday, September 8th.

The Silent No More Walk/Run is this Saturday – and what a day it will be! The forecast looks to be perfect – sunny and low 70’s. Before you lace up your walking or running shoes (in teal, hopefully!) as a Silent No More Walk/Run Committee co-chair, I’d like to share some reminders and other information about the Walk/Run.

Timing: As we’ve said in years past, we encourage participants to get to Rosland Park early, so you can allow extra time to park and walk, pick up your registration packet and t-shirt, etc. We suggest arriving between 7:30 and 8:30 a.m. The Survivor Photo will be taken at 8:30 a.m. and we hope all survivors can join in! A full timeline of events that morning can be found here.

NEW Parking!: We have some changes to the parking options at the Walk/Run, so we encourage our participants to review the parking map before coming down to Rosland Park. Please note that Southdale Mall is NOT an approved parking spot for the event.

And, as always, carpooling is highly recommended! Please allow additional time to walk or ride the shuttle bus.

MOCA Store: We will have our MOCA Store on site, selling t-shirts, teal jewelry, hats, and of course, our Tie it Teal laces. Be sure to bring cash, check or credit card if you’d like to purchase something.

Dining out for MOCA: Because so many groups like to go out for lunch or dinner after the Walk/Run, we’ve been working with various local restaurants to encourage them to “give back to MOCA” when you bring your group to their establishment!

– CRAVE at the Galleria: On Saturday, Sept. 8, CRAVE at the Galleria will donate 10% of the total bill to MOCA when you provide this flyer to your server.

– Edina Perkins: Throughout September, the Perkins location in Edina will be donating 15% of the total bill to MOCA, when diners provide this flyer.

– Ruby Tuesday’s: Select Ruby Tuesday’s location throughout the Metro will be providing a portion of a diner’s bill to MOCA on select days throughout September. Flyers with dates and information can be found here.

Fundraising: Don’t forget to turn in donations when you pick-up your t-shirt. And September 30th is the deadline to turn in donations to qualify for incentives.

Same Day Registration: If you haven’t registered yet, you can register in person this Saturday. Bring a friend or family member – we look forward to seeing you there!
