Few things are more meaningful than a family photo, especially during the holiday season. Often spanning generations, these are memories that stand the test of time.
Earlier this month, our MOCA members had the chance to create their own memories thanks to a free photo shoot session from the Minneapolis chapter of Help-Portrait, an international non-profit that gives the gift of portraits to select non-profit groups. MOCA was one of three Minnesota groups selected this year.
Working with Help-Portrait, MOCA promoted the event and helped register more than 25 ovarian cancer survivors and their families for the photo shoot, which included hair styling, make-up application, a framed photo and a disk of photos to take home.
During this time of holiday giving, what a gift it was. It was amazing to see the families come together – from groups of 2 to more than 12 – and take a photo that celebrates the love, hope and inspiration they find in each other.
Equally inspiring was seeing the professional photographers, editors and stylists, who had volunteered their entire day, hard at work to create lasting memories for the women and families of MOCA. To me, it truly summed up the giving spirit of this holiday season.
From all of us at MOCA, we’d like to say “thank you” to those Help-Portrait volunteers. For your time, effort, and of course, the gift of memories.
