Volunteers: The Heart of MOCA!

Volunteers: The Heart of MOCA!

Volunteers at MOCA's 2011 Silent No More Walk/Run.

4.16.12 Did you know that MOCA is the fortunate recipient of more than 4,000 volunteer hours each year, the equivalent of 3.5 full time staff? As the Development and Events Manager for MOCA, I work with dedicated volunteers nearly every day. As we mark National Volunteer Recognition Week, we’d like to say thank you. And there are so many of you to thank! Amazing special events interns who coordinate event logistics. The nearly 200 Silent No More Walk/Run day-of volunteers. And the 55 girls from the Rochester Century High School Girls Track Team and Mayo Clinic employees who will volunteer at this month’s 2nd Annual Spring Fling Diva Run in Rochester.

MOCA uses volunteers in all aspects of our annual and special events, as well as within our medical and public education programs. MOCA also has a group of dedicated office volunteers who perform such tasks as data entry, generating donor acknowledgements and ensuring our mailings go out in a timely manner, all in support of our programs to raise awareness, provide support to women and families and fund essential research on ovarian cancer.

At our MOCA Annual Meeting  on May 8, we’ll be recognizing the volunteers from 2011, and we hope you’ll join us in thanking them for their countless hours of service. If you’d like to contribute your time to MOCA, be sure to check out our volunteer opportunities on our MOCA Volunteer Opportunities page, as well as participating in annual and special events such as our Molly Cade Scramble for Ovarian Cancer or the new Northland Teal Run, a family-friendly 5K and Kids Fun Run, in Brainerd on Sunday, August 5.

Thank you to all dedicated MOCA volunteers! I am continuously amazed at the willingness of MOCA supporters to do everything they can to make a difference in the lives of women who face a diagnosis of ovarian cancer and their families; you all are my inspiration and motivation to continue doing what I do every day. The summer of 2012 will be filled with a lot more opportunities for you to get involved with MOCA where you live – stay tuned to upcoming MOCA newsletters, e-news and social media for details on the exciting summer we have coming and how you can be involved!
