About MOCA

Started in 1999 by a small group of ovarian cancer survivors, MOCA is dedicated to raising awareness and funding the research needed to detect ovarian cancer early and treat it properly. MOCA has provided more than $6 million in funding for ovarian cancer research at Mayo Clinic, the University of Minnesota and other research institutions. We’ve also developed medical awareness programs that reach hundreds of doctors, nurses and med students each year. We do more than provide resources for women with ovarian cancer and their families. Through regularly scheduled meetings, newsletters, a comprehensive website and fundraising and educational events, we provide a community for sharing information and making critical connections. With your help, we can continue our important work in the fight against ovarian cancer. Your generosity is greatly appreciated! We encourage you to get involved with MOCA by attending one of our Annual Events or by volunteering with us.

Memorial Fund Donations

Anita and Walter Lubov Fund

Anita Lubov was an oncology nurse in Ohio who died from ovarian cancer in 1999. This fund, established by her family, provides scholarships for currently practicing oncology nurses from Minnesota to attend national educational conferences. With the opportunity to attend relevant seminars and other events, nurses can improve their care of women with ovarian cancer, increase their knowledge of the disease, and educate their medical colleagues.

Shelly Ross Memorial Fund

Shelly Ross, one of the founding members of MOCA, died from ovarian cancer on Mother’s Day of 2000. Before passing away, she expressed an interest in supporting MOCA in a lasting way, with the hope that her daughters and granddaughters would not have to travel the same path she did. Shelly’s family and friends honored her request by creating and endowing this fund, which helps fund ovarian cancer research in Minnesota, educate the community about ovarian cancer and promote the importance of early detection.

It’s easy to donate directly to any of these funds.

To contribute a particular fund, simply specify the fund when you make your online donation or fill out the form for donations by mail.

Income & Wealth Sharing Options

Employer Gifts & Matches

Many companies have matching gift programs to encourage employees to donate to charitable organizations. Most of these programs match your contribution dollar for dollar, and some employers will even double or triple the amount of your gift. If your employer has a matching gift program, MOCA will help you facilitate the paperwork.

Community Health Charities

MOCA is a designated member charity of the Community Health Charities program. If your workplace is involved in this program, you can support MOCA by designating our organization as the beneficiary of your support.

United Way Write-In Charity

MOCA is not a United Way agency organization, so we do not receive support from that group’s general funding campaign. However, you can support MOCA through your United Way workplace campaign by writing in “MOCA” under “Other” on your United Way pledge card. By doing this, you’ll be supporting MOCA’s mission with a portion of your United Way paycheck deductions.

Gifts of Stock

MOCA is able to accept gifts of stock. To make arrangements or find out more, please contact MOCA’s executive director, Kathleen Gavin, at kgavin@mnovarian.orgor (612) 822-0500.

For more information, please contact MOCA’s executive director, Kathleen Gavin, at or (612) 822-0500.

Non-Monetary Donations

Used Vehicle Donations

Why let that unused vehicle go to rust when it could be donated to support ovarian cancer research, education and awareness programs? MOCA has partnered with Car Program LLE to provide an easy-to-use process that includes free pickup or towing. We can also accept trucks, RVs and boats. To begin the donation process, fill out the MOCA Vehicle Donation Form and email or mail it to MOCA (contact info on form). Questions? Contact Constance White at or (612) 822-0500.

Our audience is Minnesota focused. We have a number of events, outreach initiatives, and education and support programs that target women, their families, health care providers and researchers. We are a highly respected organization and a leader in ovarian cancer initiatives. As one of the oldest and most established ovarian cancer advocacy organizations in the country, MOCA is among the top five private, non-profit funders of ovarian cancer research in the nation.

As we both work to expand our reach, there are many ways a partnership can help MOCA and your company meet goals and increase visibility in the community. Event sponsorships, cause-related marketing initiatives and in-kind donations are just a few of the ways your organization can partner with MOCA for mutual benefit.

MOCA’s corporate sponsors are critical partners in supporting the mission of the Minnesota Ovarian Cancer Alliance. We would like to thank you in advance for your interest in raising awareness and funding the research needed to detect ovarian cancer early and treat it properly.
