Deb’s Journey
Deb is sharing her ovarian cancer journey to bring strength and hope to other women.
“We all have a voice and a story to tell.”
Deb remembers clearly how her life changed course one beautiful spring day. She went to the ER after experiencing pelvic pressure and pain.
“When the doctor told me I had a malignancy, I was astounded. It was the last thing I expected.”
Soon, Deb was diagnosed with stage 3 ovarian cancer. She needed surgery and chemotherapy.
Understanding the difficult journey ahead, Deb’s gynecologic oncologist shared about the resources available at the Minnesota Ovarian Cancer Alliance (MOCA).
After her first phone call to MOCA, Deb quickly found the support and connection she needed.
“Through these relationships with MOCA staff and other survivors, I have gained the strength and confidence to believe that I can find this disease and handle whatever the future holds.”
Thankfully, Deb’s chemotherapy treatments are behind her. Now, she enjoys spending more time with family and the MOCA community. Deb is a regular at MOCA support groups and events, including our Black, White & Teal Gala and HOM Teal Strides for Ovarian Cancer.
Deb is passionate about raising awareness and raising funds for MOCA’s vital work—from our meaningful programs to our critical research.
“We are fortunate to be living in a time when breakthrough technologies are making huge strides in medicine. I find hope in knowing that if or when my cancer returns, it will not be a death sentence—but rather an opportunity to receive the latest treatment.”
Life-saving research, life changing support—you make it all possible.
