Grand Rounds Overview
June 28, 2006. Macalester College, St. Paul. This meeting informed members on how MOCA is raising awareness of ovarian cancer, its symptoms and the importance of early detection through an educational program called Grand Rounds. This MOCA initiative paired a gynecologic oncologist with an ovarian cancer survivor to deliver prepared talks to practicing doctors through continuing education programs at the hospitals where they provide care. Speakers included Dr. Melissa Geller, Assistant Professor, University of Minnesota, Division of Gynecologic Oncology, MOCA Board Member; Ovarian Cancer Survivor Joy Wetzel; and MOCA Medical Education Program Manager Kathy McGovern.

Assessing Your Genetic Cancer Risk
March 22, 2006 – Mary Ahrens, Genetic Counselor from the University of Minnesota, discussed genetic testing and the risks and benefits associated with this type of medical information. As a genetic counselor, she spoke on genetic cancer risk with individuals concerned about their personal and family history of cancer. Mary described features of a family history associated with an increased risk of cancer.
