John Wetzel joined the MOCA Board of Directors for the second time in 2023. Previously, John served on the Board from 2015 to 2022. For more than 20 years, he has been an active MOCA volunteer and a loyal supporter of our mission.
John became involved with MOCA after his wife Joy was diagnosed with stage IV ovarian cancer in 2001. John and Joy enjoyed attending several MOCA events together and volunteering in many ways over the years. Joy served on the MOCA Board for several years. She was also a MOCA Mentor to other women. Sadly, Joy passed away from the disease in November 2014.
John has remained dedicated to MOCA’s mission. He is one of the founding members of the Men of MOCA, a group which provides support to men impacted by an ovarian cancer diagnosis. John also volunteers for MOCA’s HOM Teal Strides for Ovarian Cancer as a Registration Co-Chair. He remains a regular volunteer for MOCA and attends community and fundraising events throughout the year.
After “retiring” from his career as an Industrial/Organizational Psychologist in August of 2013, John became a career counselor at the University of Minnesota College of Liberal Arts Career Services Area. He currently resides in Golden Valley and loves spoiling his godchildren, nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. In his spare time, John enjoys swimming, walking, the music and theatre scene in the Twin Cities and domestic and international travel.
