Melissa Cook

Melissa Cook joined the MOCA Board of Directors in 2023. Melissa is an ovarian cancer survivor, first diagnosed in 2016 at the age of 39. In 2018, she experienced a recurrence with the disease. Melissa is thankful to be doing well and continues to take a maintenance drug, known as a PARP inhibitor.

MOCA has played a big role in Melissa’s ovarian cancer journey. Through MOCA, Melissa found support groups, friends, clinical information and resources. She also found hope that one day, with MOCA’s research efforts, we will discover an early detection test—and hopefully a cure.

Since her diagnosis, Melissa has been actively involved with MOCA. She is currently a MOCA Mentor to other women who are dealing with ovarian cancer. Melissa also hosts events for survivors and serves on the Black, White & Teal Gala committee. In this role, Melissa organized MOCA’s successful basket raffle and made special gifts for survivors. Melissa also enjoys volunteering at HOM Teal Strides for Ovarian Cancer and other events.

Melissa works as an account manager at Great Northern Corporation. At her workplace, Melissa chaired a fundraising group to give back to her community. She is also active in her church and has received special training to help equip lay people to provide emotional and spiritual support to other church members during difficult times.

Melissa currently resides in Minneapolis. She has an adult daughter. In her spare time, Melissa enjoys traveling, road trips, hiking and being creative.
