Are you a caregiver seeking additional support or looking to connect with others who understand what you’re going through? In this month’s Teal Talk, MOCA Community Support Program Manager Stefanie Gliniany shares about an event designed to unite and empower caregivers.
I’d like to invite you to CaregiverCON taking place on Saturday, November 1st. You’ll be part of a supportive community of caregivers where you will feel uplifted and celebrated. At CaregiverCON, you’ll have the opportunity to learn about a variety of caregiving topics and take part in breakout sessions. You’ll gain access to a range of resources and workshops designed to empower and equip you throughout your caregiver journey.
MOCA is proud to be a nonprofit community partner of this event. Please stop by and say hello to our MOCA volunteers, including John Wetzel. John is a MOCA Board Member and one of the founders of the Men of MOCA. John first became involved with MOCA after his wife Joy was diagnosed with stage 4 ovarian cancer in 2001. The couple enjoyed attending several MOCA events together and volunteering in many ways. Joy also served on the MOCA Board for several years. Sadly, Joy passed away from the disease in November 2014.
John has continued his support of MOCA. He reflected on his time as a caregiver and shared some thoughts with me.
“The role of a caregiver is truly a privilege, no matter how much time, energy, and ‘inconvenience’ it involves. Whether your role is that of a primary caregiver 24/7, a scheduled weekly commitment or an occasional relief for the primary caregiver, there is a sense of accomplishment and satisfaction,” said John.
John’s words serve as a strong reminder that caregiving, though often difficult, is profoundly meaningful. CaregiverCON provides an opportunity for you to recharge, learn, and connect with others who share your experience.
